Wassily Kandinsky (1866–1944) played a central role in the early development of abstract art. Originally from Moscow, he studied law and economics before committing to painting in his thirties. Relocating to Germany, he helped establish the group Der Blaue Reiter, promoting art grounded in inner emotion and spirituality. Kandinsky’s practice shifted from figurative landscapes to striking abstract compositions built from color, form, and rhythm—elements he regarded as vehicles for psychological and spiritual resonance. As a Bauhaus instructor and the author of major texts including 'Concerning the Spiritual in Art,' Kandinsky significantly shaped the direction of modern art and abstraction.
