Working primarily in oil on canvas and wood, Vasily Kulchenko is a self-taught artist whose landscape paintings draw on Impressionist techniques combined with contemporary energy. Based in Perth, Western Australia, he often paints the region’s beaches and the Indian Ocean, using varied underpainting approaches and expressive, textured brushwork to convey shifting natural moods. While focused on landscapes, Kulchenko also experiments with abstraction. His evolving style reflects a lifelong engagement with painting, aiming to translate both visual experience and emotion through color and movement.
