Tom Nelson’s practice merges urban art techniques with references to modern painting. Beginning with graffiti, he later shifted to stretched canvases and reclaimed materials, focusing on preserving traces of his work. Nelson’s abstract paintings evolve through repeated, deconstructed gestures, generating layered lines and textures that verge on the unreadable. His compositions convey rhythmic movement, shaped by influences such as the monochromes of Yves Klein, Pollock’s drippings, and the dark intensities of Soulages’ Outrenoir.
