Born in Parma in 1968, Stefano Mazzolini graduated in 1989 from the Paolo Toschi Institute with a diploma as Master of Art in pictorial decoration. His recent work is defined by the dominance of shadow over light, where luminescence transforms visible forms and evokes a sense of memory connected to both living and non-living matter. Through marks that resemble electrical discharges and signs of material decay, Mazzolini’s paintings introduce voids and inconsistencies that serve as traces of what remains over time. His subjects—figures, still lifes, invented forms, bodies, and objects—are rendered with a restless energy, appearing as residual impressions that emphasize the persistence of memory amid deterioration.
