« If Rothko and Ken Noland had an illegitimate child, it could have been Sandy Sokoloff--while not accounting for his fierce, independent nature and isolating circumstances that mean few people know about his recent work. »
Christopher Crosman, Founding Chief Curator of Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art and Executive Director of the Farnsworth Art Museum writes:

“I want to introduce you to artist Sandy Sokoloff. A native of Brooklyn, NY, he taught for many years in Boston before retreating to Vermont.

What interests me about his work is the way he uses architectural elements to frame and contain delicately atmospheric circles, orbs and "windows." He borrows from sacred architectural elements (Romanesque vaulting systems and oculi) to construct--via color and painterly brushwork--a new visual ontology of being and not being alluding to his interests in divine cosmology, seeing and believing.

If Rothko and Ken Noland had an illegitimate child, it could have been Sandy Sokoloff--while not accounting for his fierce, independent nature and isolating circumstances that mean few people know about his recent work.”
