Michel Das, born in Lyon in 1964, began painting after early studies in photography and applied arts at the Bellecour School. Since 1992, he has developed a practice situated between abstraction and Pop Art, informed by African, Asian, and Western influences alongside references to Fauvism and Cubism. Defining himself as both a colorist and photographer, Das integrates photography, AI, and distinctive color processes, often working with large, uniform fields. His techniques encompass virtual and paper collage, as well as the “graphic knot,” an approach he adopted independently of academic conventions, emphasizing simplicity and purity of line and color.
