Working across painting, digital art, and photography, Louise Primi Simone creates contemporary figurative works that focus on humanity, emotion, and the play of light. Based in Montreal, she has developed an international career since the 1980s, notably as a portrait photographer with her husband and collaborator, Joseph Simone. In 1983, she became the first woman recognized as Canada’s Photographer of the Year. Her current practice combines oil painting, cold wax, mixed media, and digital techniques, often centering on the human—especially female—figure. Primi Simone’s work moves between figuration and suggestion, exploring themes of intimacy, memory, femininity, and time through layered materials and transparency.
