José Garcia (b. 1959, Madrid) has lived in Paris since childhood, developing his artistic practice after emigrating to France in 1962. Early health challenges confined him for several years, shaping his outlook and fueling a strong engagement with drawing and painting from a young age. From the age of ten, he explored Paris’s museums on his own, building a lasting passion for art. Encounters with painter Juan Alcalde at Arts et Métiers and Place du Tertre proved formative. Influenced by Picasso, Matisse, and Modigliani, Garcia works with a spontaneous approach, often sketching scenes from cafés and public transport. He studied further at Ateliers Terre et Feu, and in addition to his visual art, he is active as a songwriter.
