Jarik Jongman (born 1962) studied at the Art Academy in Arnhem before working as an assistant to Anselm Kiefer in France. His paintings often begin with his own photographs or found images sourced from flea markets and the internet, with architecture serving as a frequent motif. Jongman’s work addresses themes of metaphysics, transience, history, and the human condition. He has exhibited widely, including in Berlin, London, New York, Jerusalem, and at collateral events of the Venice Biennale in 2009 and 2011. Recognition includes a shared first prize at the 2010 UK National Open Art Competition, selection for both the Threadneedle Prize and the John Moores Prize, and participation in the 2012 Liverpool Biennial. In 2017, he won the Luxembourg Art Prize. His work is held in collections in the Netherlands and internationally.
