British painter James Earley is known for emotionally charged portraits of individuals who have experienced trauma and occupy a precarious emotional state. Now based in France, Earley has exhibited extensively across the UK and internationally, including in Spain, France, the Netherlands, and Monaco. He first gained recognition as a featured artist in London’s Strand Gallery ‘Seven Artists Exhibition’ and was shortlisted for the BP Portrait Award in 2015. His work has been shown with the Royal Institute of Oil Painters and the Royal Institute of Portrait Painters. Earley has received numerous honors, including first prize at the London Biennale (2019), the Giotto International Prize, the Leonardo da Vinci International Prize, the Venice International Art Prize (2020), and the Contemporary American Art Collectors Award (2024). He was invited to exhibit at the Venice Biennale by the European Cultural Centre in 2022, with additional exhibitions at The Louvre in Paris and Bonhams Auction House in London. His work has been featured on the BBC, in the Financial Times, Europe Today, and The Art Newspaper. Both Kunst Heute and the International Contemporary Art Curators have described him as among the most significant artists working today.
