Working between Germany and her Russian origins, Irina Shishkova creates psychogeographic landscapes that evoke inner states of ambiguity and questions of identity. Childhood years in Africa shaped her early connection to nature and symbolism, later disrupted by her return to post-Soviet Russia—an experience that deepened her interest in multicultural identity. Her approach integrates classical Russian academic training, Sumi-e techniques acquired in Japan, and study at the Milan Art Institute. Time spent in international corporate leadership further informs her view of identity within complex systems. Shishkova’s work, which treats landscape as a psychological and metaphysical space, is exhibited regularly and appears in private collections throughout Europe and beyond.
