Herbert Harringer works primarily with wood as his medium and, after an intensive engagement with traditional carving and anatomical studies, has dedicated himself to contemporary sculpture. His works are characterized by a clear reduction, anatomical precision, and a meditative, organic formal language, in which he understands the wood as a living partner. His sculptures radiate tranquility, vulnerability, and an inward-looking strength, conveying profoundly human, universal emotions.
The human being is at the heart of my sculptures. Not always as a detailed likeness, but as essence: posture instead of expression, tension instead of decoration, stillness instead of excess. I deliberately forgo fully articulated faces to create space for universal emotions. The figures do not open themselves to the outside world – they turn inward. They rest, protect, gather themselves. Their strength lies in their restraint.
