Frank Stella (born 1936, Massachusetts) is recognized for his influential role in abstract art, with a career spanning from the late 1950s onward. Educated at Phillips Academy in Andover and Princeton University, Stella emerged in New York with minimalist paintings noted for their linear patterns and limited palettes. Over time, his practice developed toward complex geometric compositions, exemplified by the 'Black Paintings' and later the colorful 'Protractor series.' Works such as 'Harran II' and 'Flamboyant' reflect his shift from flat canvases to more sculptural forms. Stella’s trajectory has marked major developments in contemporary art, consistently pushing the boundaries of color, form, and space.
