Erró, born in 1932 in Iceland, is known for his pop art paintings influenced by comic imagery. After studying art in Norway and Italy, he moved to France in 1958, where he connected with leading Surrealist artists, including André Breton. Erró was a founding member of the Figuration Narrative movement, alongside Peter Klasen and Hervé Télémaque. Emerging in opposition to the prevailing abstraction of the 1960s, Figuration Narrative promoted a return to figuration and was closely tied to the social and political changes surrounding May 1968. While aesthetically akin to Pop Art, the movement and its artists, including Erró, positioned themselves in political opposition to the American scene, criticizing its dominance and lack of political engagement.
