Educated at the Weitzenhoffer College of Fine Arts and apprenticed to local artists, Kurtz works in a vigorous, improvisational style influenced by Basquiat and Rauschenberg. His paintings feature matte surfaces and layered textures, exploring themes of civil rights and religious influence, often tempered by dark humor intended to unsettle and amuse.
