Working with spray, oil, acrylic, and charcoal, Carlos Zarate creates expressive paintings that center on the body as a site of beauty, abandonment, and resistance. Raised in a conservative mountain town in Colombia, Zarate first pursued engineering and business before a formative winter in Berlin prompted him to shift his focus to art. After returning home, he left his previous studies to dedicate himself to painting, later studying graphic design. Zarate’s raw, direct style reflects both vulnerability and confrontation, shaped by his desire to challenge the silence and constraints of his upbringing.
