Since 2010, Carla Meertens has combined found objects and handmade porcelain to create sculptural assemblages that balance simplicity with technical precision. With a background in monumental ceramic art and extensive teaching and artistic experience in Belgium, her work reflects alertness and reflection, often evident in the titles she selects. Meertens’s sculptures express vulnerability, interconnectedness, and the fleeting nature of existence while introducing a playful element tempered by mystery and a raw undertone. Her pieces are marked by ambiguity, and shift between endearing, subtly humorous, and quietly melancholic qualities. Her work has been selected for numerous international competitions.
