MADARA is a contemporary calligrapher who blends traditional Japanese hisseki-jutsu with contemporary expression.
He began practicing calligraphy at the age of five and earned his master's license at 15. For over 40 years, he has created countless hand-painted works that combine art, design, and spirituality, passing them on to enthusiasts.
In 2009, while preparing for his first solo exhibition, his home and studio were destroyed in a fire caused by a meteorite, and all of his works were lost. Two years later, the Great East Japan Earthquake and nuclear accident occurred, deepening his contemplation of life and silence.
Reborn after these experiences, he founded Atelier MADARA in Shonan. Grounded in his hisseki-jutsu, which conveys prayer and vitality through brushstrokes, his works express love, rebirth, and the invisible warmth hidden in silence.
