MADARA is a contemporary calligrapher whose practice merges traditional Japanese hisseki-jutsu with modern expression. He began studying calligraphy at five and achieved his master's license at fifteen. Over four decades, he has created hand-painted works that intertwine art, design, and spirituality. In 2009, he lost his home, studio, and all previous works to a meteorite-induced fire. Two years later, the Great East Japan Earthquake and nuclear accident further influenced his perspective on life and silence. Following these events, he established Atelier MADARA in Shonan. His calligraphy, rooted in hisseki-jutsu, conveys themes of love, rebirth, and the quiet vitality present in silence.
