Annette G. Rathjen combines painting, collage, and drawing to create layered works that incorporate materials such as acrylic paint, charcoal, chalk, sand, coffee grounds, marble dust, ash, and old nautical charts. Her process builds tension through overlapping lines and colors, allowing traces of earlier layers to remain visible as new forms emerge. The resulting images reveal both structure and movement, presenting fragmented and superimposed compositions that resist linear narrative. Rathjen’s work has been exhibited in France, Austria, Italy, and the United States.
