Elena Vasilyeva’s practice reflects both her academic training in enamel art and two decades dedicated to doll-making, which introduced her to working with volume, drapery, and the animated quality of form. Motifs and figures from the world of dolls continue to inform her work. Vasilyeva’s collage process begins with a digital image, extensively reworked by hand using cord relief, papier-mâché, and layers of acrylic paint. This method transforms a flat digital base into textured, sculptural compositions rooted in her experience with doll art. The resulting style, which she describes as "Biomorphic Surrealism," merges digital origins with handcraft, and combines three-dimensionality with painterly surface.
