Alexandre Pons centers his practice on materiality and color, working with natural pigments, India ink, walnut stain, layered oil pastels, and textured papers. Gold and silver leaf occasionally appear in his compositions. Red, black, white, and natural tones are repeated choices in his palette. Emphasizing spontaneity and accident, Pons values unplanned moments in the making of his work, allowing intuition and chance to shape the outcome. Influences include artists such as Antoni Tapiès, Antoni Clavé, Thibault de Reimpré, Michèle Destarac, Manolo Millares, De Kooning, Jackson Pollock, Nicolas de Staël, André Lanskoy, and Bram van Velde.
