Leonard Gabriel is an American figurative painter who works primarily in acrylic and marker, splitting his time between Bavaria and Lago di Garda. His large-scale paintings depict the body through layered gestures, emphasizing muscle, weight, and movement with both acrylic and loose, urgent marker lines. Recent works focus on ballet dancers in the midst of motion, treated with the same physicality that defines his broader practice. Gabriel has painted full-time since 2021, following eighteen years as an art educator and a career as a creative consultant for New York advertising agencies. He has exhibited at art fairs in Brussels and Paris, as well as at Kuna Galería in San Miguel de Allende, Espacio Vitriol in Buenos Aires, and Loop Street Gallery in Cape Town. He received an ESKFF residency at Mana Contemporary, Jersey City, and has attended workshops with Markus Lüpertz and Matthias Kroth at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kolbermoor.
