Josephine Schiphorst

Schiphorst’s work is defined by a commitment to informal art and abstract expressionism, marked by tactile surfaces and deliberate color harmonies. Her layered mixed-media process—combining acrylics, plaster, wrapping paper, and jute on linen—balances intention and chance, often revealing weathered, organic textures through building up and removing material. Schiphorst studied at the Vrije Akademie in Heerlen before continuing at The Hague’s Koorenhuis with Eric Dordregter, and spent over 15 years under the guidance of Rineke Kop. Her distinctive approach, rooted in texture and rhythm, has attracted private collectors both in the Netherlands and abroad.
