Issmat Abdulkader

Germany

Born in Damascus in 1949, Issmat Abdulkader stands among the last prominent figures of Syrian modernism. Since relocating to the Rhine in 1978, he has established a body of work defined by vibrant color and an enduring sense of poetry. Influenced by his teacher Fateh Moudarress and contemporary Louay Kayali, Abdulkader works across charcoal on handmade paper, wood, glass, and large-scale canvas, maintaining a distinct and virtuosic style. Sensual forms, luminous Levantine palettes, and powerful symbols combine in his paintings, creating layered narratives centered on love, passion, and freedom.
